The fancy flappers are on the road

Day 2 in Fez

The WhatsApp group for the whole group is now called the Fancy Flappers do Africa. By way of explanation, there are deliberately no tea towels on the truck, all washing up is dried by grabbing a plate or two and flapping your arms with them until they are moderately dry/no more water splashes come off them/you’re arms are aching from flapping plates around.

The novelty will wear off soon I am sure.

The camping novelty has also worn off thanks to 4 holes in our sleeping mattress. So alongside the early morning call to prayer, we could have slept better last night.

Today was a guided tour round Fez, which was obviously essential given that we walked 14km round it two days ago. However, this time we were a slightly larger group, which meant walked everywhere very slowly.

We also had a chance to have multiple people selling things to us like argan oil, agave based material and ceramics.

Falafel from Mister Falafel – awesome.

Compulsory small kitten photo.

Mark was on cooking duty tonight, so didn’t get a chance to go for a run, instead we spent 20 mins in Decathlon buying a new mattress.

I’m on cooking duty tomorrow, which is also the first time any group needs to use the allocated budget for the evening. I have the guy who talks at you and the virtually deaf woman alongside me to help. Can’t wait.

Let’s how we do for sleep tonight…..

  1. Loving your blog so far and the photos are amazing! Can imagine the smell of those tanneries – were you given mint to stick up your nostrils!?

I have truck envy, glad to see you have a good stash of wood to start with! Will be following you every step of the way with envy ……

    1. A keen eye on the wood there Katie! Apparently we may get a fire at our next campsite. We were offered mint at the tanneries but weren’t keen on the hefty bill this would no doubt include after walking round, plus mark just commented to the workers that it smelled like his childhood growing up on a farm!
