T minus 2 days

The flight to Fez! Which meant being stopped going through UK security with a lot of currency on us. The woman who searched Mark’s carry on luggage was just very jealous of the trip, so with completely stuffed rucksacks and bedding on the plane we were then just left with the task of spotting two other couples we know who are on the plane and starting the trip with us.

At the gate I spotted one couple who also commiserated on the level of organisation required and internal panic of carrying a year’s worth of thyroxine tablets through an airport hoping they come out the other side. So, we know they are on the truck for the full 11 months too. Are they the ones who needed the nut allergy alert that was made as we were all boarding the plane though? Time will tell…..or an epi-pen.

Ever the romantic, Mark bought me a KitKat as the last bit of UK chocolate for a while and off we flew. Within about 5 minutes I think we were both asleep.

After the traditional attempt of being ripped off by a taxi driver (I suspect we will get used to this in time or just stop using taxis) we reached Ryad Alya. We’ll be slumming it on Monday in tents, but for now, we are in a small corner of heaven.

We’ve decided to have a lazy afternoon, meaning three things:

  • Mark only ran for 5km round the Medina within two hours of arriving.
  • We’ve already had a hammam and massage, providing me with the extraordinarily rare opportunity of seeing a woman wearing a mighty exfoliating glove lifting the waistband of my husband’s swim shorts.
  • We are eating in our ryad tonight because we just want to relax tonight and adventure out tomorrow. Live music is promised so we’ll see how well we stick to that decision.

Well, the music was amazing, very talented musician.

The food in the ryad was traditional….

…..but maybe not as traditional as eating a cactus in the Medina.

And so to bed (via watching traitors in bed tonight).
