As we inevitably climbed up a 5km long hill to our pub room tonight, I asked Mark if he could recall anything from walking this morning. It was a struggle, but then he did recall getting sticker shock at something he saw on the outskirts of St Austell.

The rest of the day has been very much more of the usual stuff we have seen 100 times, with one exception.
We’ve had quiet lanes that required exceptional listening skills to dodge cars.

Ironically, about 6 taxis passed us within 5 minutes of taking this photo.

We’ve had boggy bits and ankle twisting small lanes.

A quaint pub that had local cider and local food specials.

A couple of viaducts distracted us for about 2 minutes……

St Austell viaduct

…..and the cathedral in Truro is quite impressive.

The exceptional highlight of the day has to be the people though. With huge apologies to him, I am not talking about the other customer in the breakfast cafe who talked at us, displaying a terrifyingly detailed recall of facts about neighbouring Cornish places, and who completely ignored the comments we made about needing to get to Truro as we had been walking since Scotland. No, I’m talking about my aunt, uncle and cousin who drove from Falmouth, which is likely much nicer than Truro, to have dinner with us in the most average pub in the world. That has been priceless.

Distance (with Strava tax on 30km obvs) 31.6km. Less than 70km to go…..
